Key Information
- You can't create a new account with an email already linked to an existing or deactivated account.
- Each LA Wallet user must have a unique account with a distinct email, as multiple driver's licenses or state IDs cannot be linked to one account.
- The latest LA Wallet app uses your device's screen lock (PIN, passcode, or Touch/Face ID) instead of a 4-digit PIN. Older versions still require a separate 4-digit PIN for the app.
Instructions
1. On the opening page of the LA Wallet app, tap the CREATE AN ACCOUNT button.
2. Next, you will need to read the terms and conditions then tap the Accept Terms and Conditions button to go to the next page.
3. You will need to fill in the Email, Password, and Confirm Password boxes, then click the Create an Account button at the bottom of the page.
- Password criteria are shown under the Password box. Special characters include any non-letter or non-number, like & and !. The eye icon with a line is to hide or show the password.
- The Create an Account button will be a light yellow if all boxes are not filled correctly and the letters will be in red instead of black.
- Already have an account? is a question, not a statement, if you have a LA Wallet account linked to an accessible email. Tap if you do.
4. After tapping the Create an Account button, you will be asked for an Activation Code which will be sent to your email address.
- We recommend using a secondary device (PC, tablet, or another phone) to check the activation code email. This allows you to keep the LA Wallet code entry screen open without needing to exit, which can cause it to revert to the previous page.
5. After entering the activation code, you can unlock the LA Wallet app using your device's screen lock (PIN, passcode, or Touch/Face ID).
- If your device lacks a screen lock (PIN, passcode, or Touch/Face ID), you will get this error message:
6. Once in the LA Wallet app, you can enable License Expiration Reminders and Official Messages to get notifications via app and email about your linked license/ID expirations and official state or OMV messages. This feature can be turned On/Off anytime in the Menu tab.
7. At this point, you have successfully created a LA Wallet account and can now link your necessary cards.
